Jim Player moved to the Algarve with his young family in 1968.  Starting off in Faro running a Bed & Breakfast, he went on to work in other fields, including setting up the Algarve’s first English publication, “What’s On In The Algarve” now known as The News.  Always a keen golfer, he spent a few years as the Secretary of the Vale do Lobo golf club, before setting up Jim Player Real Estate & Insurance in Almancil in 1980.

This was the first insurance agency in the Almancil area.

A young Fatima Goncalves, having recently arrived from South Africa, joined the agency in 1981.  Helena Sousa joined shortly after that and the team hasn’t stopped growing since.

The early aims of the agency were to provide expats with all their insurance needs, whether they lived 

here or owned holiday homes.  Having a firm understanding of insurance policies, legal requirements and responsibilities in Portugal allows us to provide our clients with a unique service, in a language they understand.

Having established a firm reputation for efficiency in handling all our clients insurance needs, the agency rapidly grew to become one of top insurance agents in the country.  We now provide a very wide range of specialist insurance solutions to private individuals, whether resident or not, as well as catering for the unique needs of many different businesses, resorts and developments across the region.

Jim died in November 2007 but his legacy lives on.
